How can I use an empty partition?
Just mount one of those empty 10 gig partitions and now you have 20 gigs available. When you come to install a new distro, say you'd like to give mdk10 a whirl, then you can install it on an empty partition without touching your nice mdk92 installation. Although it would be possible to "upgrade" your mdk9.2 to 10.0

I think is could be due to some duff data in the partition/slice confusing the installer. I have got round this by popping up a terminal window, and dd'ing a few megabytes of /dev/zero to the disc/partition/slice which is behaving badly at the time. Make sure you don't get the wrong one by mistake :-) -- Andrew
